What we work on
Garage door panel replacement
One damaged section can often be swapped without replacing the whole door. Whether it can comes down to whether the manufacturer still makes that panel, in that design, in that colour.
What garage door panel replacement actually involves
A dented, cracked or rusted-through section does not always mean replacing the entire door. If the door line is still manufactured and the rest of the sections are sound, swapping a single panel is far cheaper. We will tell you honestly which situation you are in.
Two things decide whether a panel swap makes sense. The first is availability: door manufacturers change panel designs, and a door more than fifteen years old often has no matching section still in production. The second is condition. A new section bolted between four faded ones is visible from the street, and if the surrounding panels are already dented from the same hailstorm you are buying half a repair. Where a swap does work it is straightforward, and it saves a substantial amount over a full replacement.
Signs you are dealing with this
- A vehicle backed into the bottom section
- Hail has dimpled one or two panels but the rest are sound
- A panel is cracked, split or rusting through at the bottom edge
- The door still runs correctly but looks damaged
- An insurance adjuster has asked for a repair estimate
What we check on arrival
- Manufacturer, model and panel design, to confirm a match is available
- Whether adjacent sections took damage that is not obvious head on
- Hinge and strut condition at the damaged section
- Colour and finish match against the weathered existing sections
- Whether the impact also bent track or knocked the door out of alignment
How it goes
How a visit runs
Four steps, in this order, every time.
- 01
Identify the door
We find the manufacturer and model, usually from a label inside a section, and check whether that panel design is still available.
- 02
Give you both numbers
You get the panel replacement price and the full door replacement price side by side, along with our honest read on which is the better spend.
- 03
Swap the section
The door is secured, the damaged section comes out with its hinges, and the new section goes in with new hardware where the old is worn.
- 04
Rebalance and cycle
A replacement panel can change the door weight slightly, so we check balance and adjust before testing the full travel.
$350 to $1400
One section on a common current door line is at the low end. Multiple sections, or a discontinued design that needs a full-door match, runs higher.
This is a range, not a quote. The exact price comes after we see the door and you approve it before any work starts. Call (469) 281-7750 and describe what it is doing.
Before we get there
A dented section can hide a bent strut or hinge behind it. Replacing the skin without checking the structure puts the load back onto damaged parts.
What people get wrong about this
One panel is dented, so the whole door has to be replaced.
Sectional doors are built as separate panels bolted to hinges, and a single section can usually be swapped out on its own. Whether that is possible depends on whether the manufacturer still makes that panel in that design and that colour. Doors under about ten years old are often still in production. Older ones, or discontinued designs, may only be matchable by replacing more of the door.
What to do: Photograph the damage and the manufacturer sticker, usually on the inside of the top or bottom section. That sticker decides whether one panel is an option.
The dent is only cosmetic because the door still runs.
A section takes an impact and passes it into the strut and the hinges behind it. A door can keep running with a bent strut for months while the hinge bores slowly elongate and the section starts to twist. Replacing the visible skin without checking the structure behind it puts the load straight back onto parts that are already deformed.
What to do: Look along the inside face of the damaged section. A strut that is no longer straight, or a hinge with an oval rather than round bolt hole, means the damage went past the skin.
How this varies across the metroplex
- Hail dents a single layer steel door because the skin is the only thing between the stone and open air behind it. A strike that lands between struts pushes the steel in and it stays in, since there is no core to spread the load. The dimples read most clearly on a flat or lightly embossed panel, where no stamped pattern breaks up the reflection.
- An insulated steel section is a sandwich: two skins bonded to a foam core, and the core backs the outer skin everywhere. That backing is why an impact that dimples a single skin door often leaves an insulated door unmarked. When an insulated section does take a dent, the bond behind it can break, and a section with a broken bond loses stiffness even where the skin looks flat.
- Storm claims on a garage door turn on documentation more than on the size of the dents. Photographs taken square to the panel rarely show shallow dimpling, so raking light from the side and a scale object in frame help. The manufacturer label inside the door gives the model and build date that an adjuster needs to assess one section rather than a full door.
- Whether a single section can be ordered starts with the manufacturer label, usually a sticker on the inside of the top or bottom section near an end stile. It carries the maker, the model line and a date, and without it the door has to be identified from panel profile and hardware alone. A door still in production is the straightforward case.
- Panel designs are discontinued on a normal product cycle, so a 16 foot door fitted ten or fifteen years ago may have no current equivalent section. Colors drift as well. A white from one production run is rarely the same white as a run years later, and on a wide door a new section sits directly beside old ones where the difference is easiest to see.
- A near match fails visibly where appearance is governed or the door faces the street directly. Sun fades a factory finish unevenly across a door, so even a correct color code on a new section reads brighter than the sections around it. Painting the whole door after the section goes in is one way to bring it back to a single tone.
- On a wood overlay or custom built door there is no catalog section to order. The damaged section is rebuilt: the base door is matched, then the overlay boards and the finish are reproduced to the existing pattern. Wood also moves with humidity, so a replacement section milled from new stock can sit slightly proud until it settles.
- A dent that stops at the skin is cosmetic. A dent that has bowed the strut across the top section or twisted a hinge leaf is structural, and a 16 foot door shows it in motion rather than at rest. Run the door by hand and watch the section edges. A panel that rubs the track or lifts unevenly has damage behind the steel.

Garage door panel replacement, asked and answered
What does garage door panel replacement cost?
One section on a common current door line is at the low end. Multiple sections, or a discontinued design that needs a full-door match, runs higher. Typical Dallas Fort Worth market range for this work. It is not a quote. The on site estimate is free and that is the number that counts.
How long does garage door panel replacement take?
A single panel swap is usually two to three hours. Two things decide whether a panel swap makes sense.
Is the work guaranteed?
Parts and labour carry a 5 year warranty. The price is agreed before any work starts, and the on site estimate is free.
Where do you cover?

Does it change depending on the door?
